A tank stores and continuously heats a reservoir of water. A tankless unit heats water as it flows through, so it doesn't run out but costs more up front and may need changes to gas or venting. Which one makes sense depends on household size, usage and budget. Jordan will tell you which he'd put in his own house.
It depends on the water, the use, and whether it's been maintained. Rather than quote a number that may not match your unit, Jordan will look at yours and tell you honestly how much life is left in it.
Rusty or discoloured hot water, noises from the tank, water pooling at the base, temperature that won't hold steady, and age. If you've got more than one of those, get it looked at before it fails on a cold morning.
